Canada Greener Homes Loan
An interest-free loan of $5,000 to $40,000, repayable over 10 years, for major home energy retrofits — heat pumps, windows and doors, insulation, solar panels and more. Unlike the Greener Homes Grant (closed to new applicants in January 2026), the Loan is still open.

Stacking with other programs
Stackable with most provincial and utility programs (LogisVert, Rénoclimat, Ontario Home Renovation Savings, CleanBC) — the loan finances the upfront cost while rebates reduce the final bill.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Canada Greener Homes Grant still available?
No — the Greener Homes Grant stopped accepting new applications in January 2026. The interest-free Loan remains open, and low-income households may qualify for the Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program instead.
How long does Greener Homes Loan approval take?
Processing times vary; recent applicants commonly report several weeks between application and approval. You must have loan approval before starting the retrofit work.
Can I use the loan for a heat pump?
Yes — cold-climate air-source and ground-source heat pumps are among the most common measures financed, and they can be combined with provincial heat pump rebates.
